Welcome to amazing Osoyoos Lake, which is not only the warmest lake in British Columbia but the warmest lake in the entire country of Canada. The lake is 10.5 km long and has temperatures that can reach between 26-33 C in the hottest months of July and August. The area has a very dry and arid desert climate and is one of the hottest places in Canada and has been known to reach upwards of 40 C in the summer. Its name is derived from the indigenous Okanagan language, which actually means “narrowing of the waters”. The valley was formed by glaciers during the last Ice Age around 17,000 years ago. The eventual glacier meltwaters formed what is now Osoyoos Lake, as well as every other lake in the Okanagan Valley. There is a small resort town on the lake that also goes by the name Osoyoos, as well as the town of Oroville, Washington, which is just across the border into the USA. The lake itself is located at the bottom of a deep valley and is surrounded by rolling hills covered in desert scrub and vast mountain wilderness areas. The area is also a world-renowned wine and fruit-producing region and is full of vineyards and orchards, especially in the nearby town of Oliver, which has been nicknamed “Canada’s Wine Capital”.

The Town of Osoyoos
The town of Osoyoos has a population of 5,085 swells in the summer months with seasonal visitors looking to enjoy the abundance of sunshine and warm desert temperatures. The town has many amenities such as beaches, parks, hiking trails, resorts, hotels, restaurants, and even mini-golf. Some of the main beaches in Osoyoos are Gyro Beach, Lions Centennial Park, Legion Beach, and Sẁiẁs Provincial Park. Fishing on the lake is also a fun activity and includes species such as Large Mouth and Small Mouth Bass, Rainbow Trout, Kokanee, and Sockeye Salmon, Carp, and Yellow Perch.
