About Pannzian Beach Resort, Ilocos Norte, Philippines

Pannzian Beach Resort is situated in a remote area of the Philippines in the northernmost reaches of Luzon island in the beautiful province of Ilocos Norte. Though close to the fairly popular, but busy beach resort area of Pagudpud, Pannzian remains a world away from that and offers up a much-needed dose of peace and solitude for the weary travel-beaten backpacker. It provides very affordable and clean rooms, with a laid-back ambiance. It is an oceanfront property that is off the beaten path and sees mostly local Filipino tourists throughout the year. Foreigners are a welcome sight and of course, the Filipino people are some of the world’s most welcoming and friendly, so interacting with locals is a positive experience. The resort is perfectly tucked into the base of the towering Cordillera Mountain Range and sits directly on the vast South China Sea offering some of the most dramatic scenery the country has to offer.

If interacting with the locals is something you're into then Pannzian is perfect for you. On our visit, we took a walk along the beach and met some of the local children from the area and they ended up following us around while demonstrating their acrobatic skills on the sand. They also seemed to be fascinated with our portable speaker and the fact that I could play music while walking the beach.

This resort has been intelligently decorated in a rustic jungle theme that seems to fit in perfectly with the tropical surroundings. Pannzian seems to have figured out how to brilliantly combine the jungle with the grounds of the resort and one can’t help but soak the positive vibes while strolling around the property.

Organic Locally Sourced Cuisine

Pannzian serves up a very traditional Filipino cuisine and they take pride in the quality of the ingredients they use in their food. Everything is organic, locally sourced and much of the food is grown or raised right on the grounds of the resort. We had a chat with the owner named Tita Bing, who told us an interesting story of how at first the locals didn’t really understand her motivations for sustainable living and leading a healthy lifestyle. She told us they nicknamed her “kalding”, which means goat in the local Ilocano language. To us, she seemed to be a very vibrant, smart woman who is in great health and has some very forward-thinking ideas about living a greener way of life. She also mentioned that the locals were starting to understand the practices of sustainable living and were opening up to the idea.

The grounds are neatly landscaped with many varieties of beautiful tropical plants and are very well maintained. Water is not a problem at Pannzian as tropical rains are a very frequent occurrence, which I’m sure helps to keep everything lush and healthy.

The resort has a couple of super friendly dogs that love going for a walk with guests along the beach. The one who accompanied us was one of the sweetest dogs we had ever met, it actually ensured our safety and showed genuine concern as we crossed the river.

Across the highway, there are small grass huts and rice fields in typical Southeast Asian fashion. The area is quiet and very scarcely populated with a few small houses scattered here and there throughout the jungle.

Conclusion

Pannzian Beach Resort is a must-visit if you're in the Ilocos Norte region of the Philippines. The resort itself combined with the pristine wilderness surrounding it makes it one of the best Philippine resorts that I have visited and at such a great value I highly recommend a stay. At Pannzian they seem to be all about disconnecting and exploring in nature, as well as exploring your own mind with no distractions from the outside world. It’s about living a simpler and more relaxing way of life, if only for a few days.
