The Soul of Pueblo Mágico: Baja House in Todos Santos
Situated in the center of the sun-drenched Pueblo Mágico of Todos Santos, Mexico, is a place where the golden hour just hits a little differently. Baja House isn’t your ordinary casa, but rather an exemplary version of “Casona” living. It perfectly blends the 1930s colonial history with a minimalist bohemian swagger.
If you’re seeking a stay at one of the best boutique hotels in Todos Santos, here is why this iconic piece of Baja history should be at the top of your bucket list.
Historic Yet Modern
Passing through the heavy wooden front door is like walking through a portal, as the plain red brick exterior leads you into what feels like a carefully curated art gallery. Staying true to its deep roots, this historic Casona stands sturdily on its original adobe walls.
The house boasts natural textures that elegantly capture the art deco meets Baja minimalist idea, without sacrificing modern amenities and luxury. Though the main idea at Baja House is to unplug and relax, they understand that connectivity is also important for the modern traveler, and that is why they provide crisp, high-speed WiFi.
The Best of Downtown Living
When staying in a Pueblo Mágico, location is important, and Baja House is ideally situated in the historic center of Todos Santos, putting you close to all the action.
Artistic Inspiration: The town’s art shops and galleries.
Culinary Delights: Delicious restaurants and the legendary Hotel California.
Cultural Landmarks: The historic colonial buildings, including the Mission of Nuestra Señora del Pilar.
Even though the hotel sits right in the center of town, within its walls exists an oasis of tranquility, and guests can truly unwind with a day of lounging by the pool. Alternatively, if you desire a day at the beach or you want to take some surf lessons, then beautiful Los Cerritos Beach is not too far away.
Sunsets and Serenity: The Rooftop Experience
One of the many attributes of Baja House is its fantastic rooftop area. On the rooftop, guests will find a great place for hanging out with plenty of places to relax, including a couch and large beanbag chairs. The roof is also equipped with a panoramic hot tub, which offers a 360-degree view of the town and its surrounding mountains. Being one of the tallest buildings around means it’s one of the best places to watch sunrises and sunsets, and you will even get a glimpse of the Pacific Ocean.
Designed for the Modern Nomad
Whether you're a digital nomad or just looking to unwind, Baja House is an excellent place for solo travelers or for larger groups, such as wedding parties or family reunions, as the entire 6-bedroom house can be rented at once. The layout means that each room is unique from the others and offers a somewhat different experience. The property also has a shared kitchen and a family room with a large TV, which will be opened up if you choose to rent the entire villa.
The Secret Ingredient: Jose and Aracely
What truly elevated our experience was the “home away from home” feel that you get during your stay. Much of that could be attributed to the manager, Jose, and the chef/housekeeper, Aracely. In the morning, upon your request, Aracely will make what some consider the best chilaquiles in Todos Santos. Crispy tortillas smothered in her signature sauce, along with chunks of feta cheese, and a plate of fresh fruits with yogurt, honey, and granola to complement the already delectable meal.
Jose, the house manager, is a great guy and an excellent host who is well known for being very attentive and readily available should any issues arise. He also has great restaurant recommendations, and we ate at Taquería el Pastorcito multiple times because it was so good. Jose’s attention to detail made our stay truly enjoyable.
