About Greenbush Lake, Okanagan Valley, Canada

An incredibly remote destination that very few visitors to the Okanagan Valley will ever see, Greenbush Lake offers truly a solitude-filled getaway tucked into the Monashee Mountains of British Columbia. Ultra blue waters surrounded by steep lush green mountains perfectly describe this gem of a lake.

The Greenbush Lake Protected Area is 2820 hectares and was created to preserve an important grizzly bear and mountain caribou territory and breeding grounds. The area also protects tracts of old-growth forests, which are becoming increasingly rare as time goes on. The lake represents the headwaters of the Shuswap River which flows into Sugar Lake, Mabel Lake, Mara Lake, and finally Shuswap Lake. Recreation activities at Greenbush include fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, camping, hiking, and heli-skiing. There are three small campsites in the park that are completely free of charge.

History of Greenbush Lake

The Greenbush Lake Protected Area was created on April 18th, 2001 but was traditionally a hunting and fishing area for the Indigenous People of the Okanagan and is still being used to this day. There is evidence of European trappers and an old log cabin still exists somewhere in the woods, if you can find it.
