Cougar Canyon Hike
About Cougar Canyon
The Cougar Canyon Ecological Reserve is a 553-hectare park with ample hiking trails and rock climbing spots. It is situated on the east side of the beautiful Kalamalka Lake in the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, and is around 13 km south of the city of Vernon. The ecological reserve is right next door to the popular Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park. The reserve has narrow canyons and a chain of six picturesque lakes along with wetland habitats that are perfect for wildlife viewing. The park doesn’t get very many visitors throughout the year, but it has spectacular rocky cliff scenery, as well as lush green wetland vegetation in the bottom of the valley, perfect for nature day hikes.

Wildlife
Cougar Canyon also contains plenty of wildlife including the endangered and rare painted turtle and yellow-bellied racer (snake). As you may have also guessed, the canyon is the perfect habitat for cougars (mountain lions) and in the Okanagan Valley, they have an abundance of deer to feed on.
