5 Travel Tips for People Over 60

Traveling is something many people look forward to as a time to unwind, disconnect, and explore different cultures. And while many people might think of travel as something you do in your younger years, the truth is that traveling over 60 can be one of the best ways to do it.

As you get older, you're much more present and capable of enjoying every second of your experience, which is why traveling over 60 can be even more enriching than traveling in your younger years.  However, as you age, getting around isn't as easy as it once was.

To help you get the most out of your trip, here are some of the best tips for traveling over 60.

Prioritize Comfort

When organizing your trip, it's easy to fall into the habit of focusing on price. You may not think an hour layover is a big deal, or staying in a hotel 3 miles away from all of the sites and activities you plan on doing during your trip will be an issue. However, you'll find that these seemingly minor inconveniences can take its toll on your comfort.

If you have the resources, treat yourself, and spend a little extra to prioritize your comfort. Get a direct flight, find accommodation exactly where you want to be—do what it takes to ensure an enjoyable experience without unnecessary hassle.

Keep Your Health in Mind

If you require any specific medications, then you want to make sure that you bring them without a doubt. Make a list of everything you need, and any prescriptions in case you need to refill them while you're on your travels.

In addition to any prescription medication, you also want to make sure that you are up to date with your vaccinations, and have an ample supply of over-the-counter medications you might need like Advil or cough syrup. You should also familiarize yourself with the medical facilities where you are planning on visiting in case you should ever need to see a doctor during your stay.

Focus on Leisure

Why pack a million things into your trip when you can leisurely enjoy the things you really want to do? A vacation is all about going at a slow pace and relaxing. If you're rushing from one place to the next, then you're only going to tire yourself out. One of the joys of traveling over the age of 60 is being able to take your time at a comfortable pace. So, when planning your trip, focus on quality over quantity, and don't over-pack your schedule unless you want to exhaust yourself.

Pack Wisely

Even though it might seem wise to pack everything you could ever possibly need on your trip and then some, in reality, overpacking can be detrimental to your experience. Pack what you need, and leave the rest at home. Remember, you're the one who's going to have to haul your bag around, and unless you want an aching back, you should pack a reasonable amount of luggage for increased mobility.
