The Auschwitz Prisoners were mostly the Jews of the community as well as Polish. When it was annexed as a Nazi territory it was given the German name of Äuschwitz “ as the concentration camp having the same name was built around the mid-forties. And it was around the beginning of 1942 and the end of 1941 when the Nazis decided to systematically eradicate European Jewish People and established camps in Chelmno, Treblinka, Sobibor, Majdanek, and Auschwitz. Around 1942 the Auschwitz camp became the center of the mass extermination of the Auschwitz Prisoners. The camp was divided into three main parts- the first and the oldest was Auschwitz I, and the second largest was Auschwitz II -Birkenau Camp with gas chambers and crematoria, and the third part was called the Auschwitz III Monowitz. The Jews who were not sent to gas chambers were picked for forced labor. Auschwitz I has a permanent exhibition called the “national pavilions “where countries present a small exhibition about its legacy and the “Wall of Death “ where Auschwitz Prisoners were exterminated at the gas chamber and crematorium No.1.Whereas at Auschwitz II -Birkenau the visitors can explore the ruins of gas chambers, barracks as well as the International Monument to the Victims and also the crematoria. The main entrance to Auschwitz lies outside Oswieciem and has the phrase etched on the entrance gate saying Ärbeit Macht Frei “( Work makes one free ) and the entrance to Auschwitz II is visible from the rail ramp which is also known as Hell’s Gate. The Museum preserves the post-camp relics where one million men, women, and children lost their lives. A” Giant pile of shoes “which were left behind by the victims is preserved by the Auschwitz Birkenau and the inventory also encompasses 3,800 suitcases, 88 pounds of eyeglasses 246 prayer shawls. Visit the “Judenrapeme ‘ which is a  part of the rail platform and was used to transfer prisoners during the Second World War and has information panels.

There were many Auschwitz Prisoners who tried to escape and most of the escapes took place at the worksites which were outside the camp. The Auschwitz Prisoners were either Jews, Poles, Sinti, and Roma (gipsies), Jehovah’s Witnesses, and also other ethnic groups. The first escape was reported on July 6 1940 at the very beginning of the hated camps where a Pole Tadeusz Wiejowski escaped disguised as a Polish civilian worker who helped him but five Polish workers were imprisoned for helping him. Two Jews Josef “Pepi “Meisel from Austria and Szymon Zaajdow of Poland escaped in 1944 with help from the resistance movement and the local underground. It has been estimated that around nine hundred and twenty-eight Auschwitz Prisoners tried to escape from the Auschwitz camp out of which 878 were men and around fifty women. The Polish were the largest in number followed by civilians of the Soviet Union. The Facts About Auschwitz come in handy as you visit the Rynek Oswieciem which is also known as the Market Square. The market square of Osweiciem dates back to the medieval ages and was once the central point of trading. It was encompassed by wooden buildings and in present times it is encircled by brick houses which mostly belong to the nineteenth century. Slebarski House happens to be a late classical building with a single story and has an architectural plan which resembles the letter L. It was built in 1830 and has a porch supported by columns was designed by Michal Slebarski and is currently the “Seat of Court “which is located here.

To restore and revitalize the Jewish culture in the town of Auschwitz the Jewish Museum and Synagogue are established. The Jewish Museum acts as a place of worship as well as a museum. A particular section of the museum has an educational facility that has a main objective to educate visitors about the Holocaust. As you take a tour of the synagogue and also the museum the visitors get to learn about the daily rituals and culture of the Jewish community which once flourished in the town. The Jews were the major population later it became infamous because of the concentration camp.
