Piute State Park, Utah

Piute State Park is located at the edge of the extraordinarily beautiful Sevier Plateau in Utah, USA. Situated on the shores of the man-made Piute Reservoir near the small town of Junction, this park attracts fishermen who enjoy catching rainbow trout, cutthroat, and brown trout as well as smallmouth bass. The park is quite simple and lacks the regular amenities that some may be used to. That being said it is a quiet getaway and the perfect place to unplug and enjoy peace and serenity. For adventure enthusiasts, the surrounding deserts provide an excellent place for ATVs and the extensive Paiute Trail System can be accessed directly from the park.

History of Piute State Park

Robert D. Young was the man originally responsible for constructing the dam that created the Piute Reservoir. It was built on the main fork of the Sevier River in 1908 and was named after the tribe of Native Americans who roamed the lands in the early days.

Piute State Park was created on the northwest part of the gorgeous Piute Reservoir. The state park was eventually opened to the public in 1963 and features several campsites that can be occupied for $5 per night. There are also pit toilets available for public use. Activities at the lake are fishing, hunting, ATV riding, water skiing, and other water sports. Keep in mind that sometimes during the summer an algae bloom can form making the water unusable to the public.

The park is located in the high desert at an elevation of 5,900 feet, this means that in the summer months, it is very hot and dry and in the winter snow covers the ground making it quite cool.
