Are Portable Consoles Worth Having in the Mobile Phone Era?

It has been years since the last time gaming hardware developers released a portable gaming console, as the most recent attempts to market such a product have not really paid off. The low marketability and the capabilities of modern mobile phones have made portable consoles something that people can live without, despite the fact that these mobile consoles could allow countless hours of top-quality gaming. Some of it seems understandable. After all, a mobile phone is seen as a device you take with you everywhere and can also be used to play games – so why pay for a separate gaming device? The only exception is probably Nintendo Switch, as this hybrid console can offer players the better of two worlds.

What Can A Gamer Play on a Mobile Phone?

Mobile phones allow for the gameplay of many different types of games. Consider the options available at a typical mobile casino site or app. At a touch of a button, you can play top-rated titles like Playtech’s Age of Gods Wonder Warriors, then flip to live casino, then move to retro video poker. You can download a gaming app and play your favorite games of chance and your favorite puzzle games, or you can access your mobile browser and visit websites with hundreds of gaming alternatives. Most games can be played without any extra gear, but for those who want to enhance their gaming experience, there are gadgets that can turn one’s mobile phone into a gaming controller. On top of that, there are phones that allow for screen sharing, so you can move your mobile gaming activity to any screen and monitor that can connect to the mobile device via Bluetooth or via Wi-Fi.

What Kind of Device Can I Buy If I Do Not Want to Play Games on my Mobile Phone?

Even though the portable console market is not that big, there are a few devices that are worth their purchasing price. The best portable console option is none other than the Nintendo Switch. This device may be slightly more expensive than devices like the Logitech G Cloud or devices that act as emulators of older-generation games, but it gives access to the gaming arsenal of the legendary Japanese gaming giants. At the same time, it is cheaper than Valve’s portable device. The only bad thing about Switch is that it does not allow for the gameplay of Steam games. On the other hand, by buying the Nintendo Switch, you will have access to every Nintendo exclusive, and you will be able to connect it to your television whenever you want.

Is Sony or Microsoft Planning to Release New Handheld Consoles?

Sony and Microsoft are the two dominating forces in the gaming world, generating billions through PlayStation and Xbox. Their 9th generation consoles are gaming hardware, which can take gaming to a whole new level, but when it comes to mobility, they have very little to offer. Sony seems to have abandoned every plan to release portable devices, despite the fact that the portable PlayStation consoles offered a pretty decent gaming experience to their players. The PSP and the PS Vita were not that bad, but Sony did not seem to bother a lot when it came to enriching their capabilities, and naturally, players started to lose interest.

At the same time, Microsoft has never seemed very eager to launch a product that would engage the portable gaming market. Mobile phones and all the Steam portable options seem to satisfy the needs of those who like to play games on the go, and therefore, Microsoft is investing its money in developing its Xbox hardware.
