About Port de Pollença (Puerto de Pollensa), Spain

Port de Pollença, also known as Puerto Pollensa, is a lovely Spanish town that is perfectly situated on the northern side of the island of Mallorca, Spain. It features a family-friendly atmosphere with plenty of worthy attractions and activities like swimming, boating, paddleboarding, kayaking, fishing, and hiking. The geology of the port lends to the protection of the bay from prevailing winds, and crashing waves and the water tends to be very calm and placid. The town’s origins go back to when it was a small fishing village and it houses a large marina within its harbor, though nowadays the harbor is used more for leisure watercraft.

The village sits on a large bay and like much of the Meditteranean Sea, it boasts breathtakingly blue water. There is also no shortage of fantastic views, as the town is shrouded in a dramatic mountain backdrop.

Port de Pollenca’s oceanfront boardwalk is an excellent place to spend an afternoon checking out the shops, restaurants, bars, and resort hotels. The area also has a wide selection of vacation rentals with amenities suitable for any family size.

The waterfront of Port de Pollenca is the main attraction along with the popular Pine Walk, which features small sandy beaches and large pine trees hanging over the sea in a picture-perfect fashion. Adjacent to the boardwalk are gorgeous luxury homes and apartments, some of which are available to rent. At the south end of the promenade, is Port de Pollença Beach, which is the largest Beach in town and is close to plenty of restaurants and stores that sell souvenirs and clothing.

How to Get There

Beaches in Port de Pollenca

Perhaps the most popular beach in Port de Pollensa is the aptly named Port de Pollença Beach. This is a large beach made of gorgeous fine white sand and is equipped with all the ingredients for a good time including palapas and sun loungers, which can be rented for a daily fee. The beach also conveniently has several beach bars which sell food and alcoholic beverages.

On the north end is D’Albercuix Beach which is part of the Pine Walk and is a beautiful little beach with crystal clear water. There are many small beaches along the promenade to choose from, so it shouldn’t be hard to secure your own little slice of heaven.

For an excellent day trip, hop on a bus and head over the mountains on a short but scenic trip to Platja de Formentor, which is hands down one of the world’s most beautiful beaches.

Hiking

There is plenty of hiking to be done in and around Port de Pollenca. Here are some of the best hikes in the Port de Pollenca area.

  • Albercutx Watchtower - A medieval watchtower, which you can hike to and actually climb up inside. It has spectacular panoramic views.

  • Mirador Es Colomer - Part of a scenic peninsula that features sweeping views looking out over mountains and the Mediterranean Sea. There are hiking trails scattered throughout the area.

  • Cala Sant Vicenc - The next village over is Cala Sant Vicenc, which has an interesting prehistoric past and scenery that is unmatched. This town has a plethora of hiking trails.

  • Cala Boquer - An amazing trek through the Boquer Valley to a fantastic cove and beach that boasts great mountain views and crystal-clear turquoise water. You will see feral goats everywhere on this hike.

  • Santuari de la Mare de Déu del Puig - A medieval church located in the mountain village of Pollenca. It has spectacular views of the Serra de Tramuntana and has an interesting historical value.
