History of Puerto Vallarta Marina

The marina was constructed in the 1980s during Puerto Vallarta’s heyday. It was started in 1986, by two Mexican locals who were brothers, Jorge and José Martínez Güitrón. They had the vision of creating something unique and luxurious and by the time they had finished building the marina, there were 500 boat slips. The population of the marina grew along with the city and from 1980 to 1990 it nearly doubled. The Mexican peso eventually tumbled in a big way and this made real estate very attractive to ex-pats from Canada and the USA who could take advantage of the low dollar and purchase properties for much cheaper than they could back home.

  • Playa El Salado (El Salado Beach)
Playa El Salado is the only beach in the Marina Vallarta area and it requires quite a walk depending on how close your hotel is to the beach.
