Playa Carricitos, Nayarit

When visiting the incredible town of Sayulita, Mexico, the colorful crowds of fun-loving hippies are part of the lure and one of the reasons why the town is such a popular up-and-coming travel destination. That being said, once in a while during your visit to Sayulita you’ll probably feel the need to escape from the hustle and bustle of the busier beaches like Playa Sayulita or Playa de Los Muertos. One of the best remedies to the overcrowded downtown beaches is the picture-perfect getaway of Playa Carricitos, one of Riviera Nayarit’s most beautiful hidden gems.

Playa Carricitos is located on the other side of the peninsula of Punta Sayulita and takes around 45-60 minutes to walk, depending on where in Sayulita you’re starting from. The beach is isolated, wild, rough, and has nothing in terms of amenities. There are no corner stores, no salesmen, no vendors, no tours, and best of all no people. This breathtaking beach is surrounded by dense tropical forests and on your walk, you will need to trek through several km of the jungle on a small cobblestone road. There are some small farms and quaint jungle houses along the way and out towards the ocean are a few remote vacation rental houses.

Playa Carricitos is a must-visit beach of Sayulita, but it a is far walk out into the middle of nowhere, and caution should be taken when visiting this paradise. The waves are also quite big and rough so be careful while taking a dip in the ocean as there probably won’t be anybody around to help you. Bring your own drinks, food, and beach blankets, and make Playa Carricitos your hangout spot for the day.
